Mixed Roots is a Nelson–based artisan food brand known for its award‑winning spice blends, curry oils, spiced honeys, and seasonings, all crafted by founder Kalpana Laitflang, who proudly calls herself “The Original Spice Girl.” At its heart, Mixed Roots is a celebration of Kalpana’s rich heritage, her family’s food traditions, and the powerful role that flavour plays in bringing people together. Mixed Roots is described as an honorarium to the women in Kalpana’s family, especially her grandmothers. The brand leans into a heritage of spice, texture, and authentic home‑style cooking, offering a modern, playful take on traditional flavours. Kalpana’s warm, community‑focused approach shines through in her storytelling, recipes, and hands‑on cooking classes.
